Notes for ELSIE LILLIAN EALEY:

Elsie Lillian Ealey was my great grandma Brown, her married name. She was married to Ervin Oscar Brown who died before I was born. He died March 8, 1950. Both of them are buried in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. Grandma Brown was a very very religious woman, a Pentecost. She never had a piano lesson but could listen to a song once and sit down and play it on the piano. It was quite amazing because she used both hands and they would literally fly over the keys. She played for her church. She came over to our house once when I was in high school and heard me play because I took lessons and learned the regular way of reading music. She loved the color orange and I remember her being buried in an orange colored dress. She also kissed me right on the lips every time I saw her.

Notes for ERVIN OSCAR BROWN:

According to the 1917 draft registration:

Ervin was born July 15, 1895 in Peoria, Illinois. He was short, slender with blue eyes and light brown hair. At that time he had a wife and two children. He worked as a laborer for Harvy Willmering in Peoria, Illinois. He lived on Jefferson street, Peoria, Illinois.

Ervin Oscar Brown was a very formal, strict man who tolerated no nonsense from kids in the house. My dad told me a story once about how he reached across the table at dinner and got his hand wacked with a fork or knife for not asking someone to pass. Kids were seen and not heard. He expected and got respect. Yet, he was loved by the kids.
